Frequently Asked Questions |
| Do you offer house calls? |
Whether in the Estates or the Cape, I will try to bring the best care to your
pet, although there are some circumstances, where it is best to see the patient
in the hospital. Pets being presented in the clinic setting automatically have
access to radiographic equipment, laboratory testing, as well as a surgical
suite. Scheduling an appointment with the hospital can make all the difference
in successful treatment for your pet. But situations may also arise, requiring
veterinarians to see patients during a house call. House calls offer the patient
expert treatment in the comfort of their home. Please call us to learn if you
pet's needs can be met during a house call or better attended to in our
hospital. We also offer pick up and delivery of pets to our hospital. Please ask
our friendly staff about our "drop your pet off" option when scheduling your
appointment. You may run your errands, pick up the children, all while your pet
is being cared for by the All Animals Clinic Doctor and staff. |
| Why is my pet so itchy? |
The
most difficult thing to watch is our furry friend itching without it seems, a
moment of rest. Sometimes this problem can even be cause for our own sleepless
nights when our pet shares our room and even our bed. Florida's climate allows
for parasites such as fleas, ticks, mosquitoes and mites to be present and
active year round. Year round flea and tick prevention is a must. Some pets may
become allergic to the bite of the fleas and ticks. Florida's climate is one
that has pollens, molds and fungus present year round, and pets can be allergic
to these environmental factors. Symptoms of allergies may appear as discharge
from the eyes and nose, reddened painful ears with sores and discharge.
Allergies affect the hair coat with hair loss, pustules, and round lesions.
Allergies can also cause dullness of the hair coat and patchy shedding. Your pet
may also lose its bright playful disposition as most of your pet's time may be
spent itching. Your pet can be very itchy, further damaging the skin allowing
for secondary bacterial or fungal infections to be introduced from the
environment. Allergies may be compounded and worsened by bacterial and fungal
infections. Allergic pets may also be allergic to food, additives, and dyes.
These allergies may have symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, and skin
irritations. |
| Should I Spay or Neuter my
Pet? |
To spay or neuter our furry friends is a question all of us may ask during
the first few months of life. By spaying and neutering your pets you will help
to control the overpopulation and eventual destruction of many unadopted
companion animals. Spaying the female cat or dog before the first heat cycle
prevents pet overpopulation, but also greatly reduces the risk of ovarian
cancer. Neutering the male pet will lower the incidents of prostate cancer,
aggression, and unwanted straying. |
| My pet is missing, how can I find him? |
The best way to get the authorities involved in finding your pet is to contact
Domestic Animal Services. Domestic Animal Services web site list pets that have
been recently found, and ones already up for adoption. Petfinder.com is also a
great resource to get the community informed about your, missing pet. Posting
photos and rewards for your lost pet can help you to be reunited. Having a
microchip implanted in your pet will help identify any lost animal once it
reaches the safety of an animal shelter. A microchip can permanently identify
your pet because it is implanted under the skin in a procedure that injects it
in place. Implanting a microchip is quick and will insure that your beloved pet
has a better chance of returning to you. |
| Can I care for my chronically ill pet at home? |
Care of a chronically ill pet may be done at home depending on the illness and
severity of the condition. Guidance in selecting an appropriate diet is most
important. Elderly pets have different nutritional needs, and maintaining the
balance is a delicate part of home care. Home care for diabetic patients might
include. Home care for pets with paralysis may include physical therapy. Massage
of the abdomen, and expression of the bladder may be necessary to encourage
elimination. Home care for kidney patients may include supplemental
neutraceuticals that would clear toxins from the body and fluids given on a
regular basis. Home care for puppies and kittens might include hand feeding with
a specialized formula and temperature regulation. Dr. Andreoli can help set up
a home care program as needed for your pet's care. |
| My puppy just won't house train. What can I do? |
There are a number of training guides available online and at the library. Pets
may not house train for a variety of reasons. House training problems may be due
to distractions, diet, or behavioral issues. However, sometimes house training
difficulties can be caused by medical problems. A trainer may be necessary in
more difficult house training problems. |
| My older dog gets "confused", it seems as though she's lost in the house, last
night she barked, for a half hour, in the middle of the night. Sometimes she
gets "stuck" in the corner, but is still eating, drinking and seems to enjoy our
walks what can I do? I don't want to let her go yet |
Some older dogs can
experience forms of confusion or dementia. Mental confusion or dementia can be
caused by many reasons such as aging, medical problems and medications. To check
for dementia or mental confusion a variety of tests and observations can be
used. There are several medications available for dementia or mental confusion.
