Spay and Neuter Services for all types of Animals in Animals |
Spaying (ovariohysterectomy) is the surgical altering of a
female animal so that she is unable to reproduce. Neutering is the castration or
altering of a male animal so it is unable to impregnate a female. Both may be
performed as outpatient procedures and pets are generally returned to the owners
the same day. Recovery for this procedure is about seven to ten days. During
this period the pet should be limited in its activity and leash walked for about
seven days. The female's uterus is removed along with the ovaries in the
procedure called spaying. Male animals testicles are removed through a small
incision. Closure for the wound may be done with sutures, staples and/or
surgical glue. The veterinary staff will remove any staples at the end of the
recovery period. An Elizabethan collar is often recommended to prevent the pet
from licking at the surgery site. |
